SM prices rise in Asia

Styrene monomer (SM) prices in Asia climbed last week. The price climb was mainly on account of a week on week gain in feedstock benzene and ethylene values.

Tight regional product availability further supported the price rise.

On Friday, although prices declined on the day, SM was assessed at the USD 1680/mt FOB Korea levels, a week on week rise of USD 5/mt. CFR India prices were higher at the USD 1695/mt levels, a gain of USD 10/mt on the week.

CFR China prices were assessed up at the USD 1710/mt levels. In the domestic markets, the SM prices were assessed at the Yuan 12200/mt ex tank mark.

CFR Japan prices were assessed up at the USD 1705/mt levels, a week on week gain of USD 10/mt.Feedstock benzene prices on Friday were at the USD 1345/mt FOB Korea levels, up USD 15/mt from the previous week. Ethylene prices were higher at the USD 1465/mt CFR North East Asia levels, a week on week sharp rise of USD 35/mt.
